1. Basic Understanding of Cylinders
A cylinder (also known as an air cylinder) is a mechanical device that converts compressed air energy into linear motion, mainly consisting of a cylinder barrel, piston, piston rod, seal, and end cap. It consists of a cylindrical shell or barrel, a piston, and various sealing elements. When compressed air enters the cylinder through the air inlet, it exerts pressure on the piston, causing it to move along the length of the cylinder. This linear motion can be used to perform a variety of tasks, such as pushing, pulling, lifting, and rotating objects.
Cylinders are widely used in automation, manufacturing, and various industrial processes. They are often used to achieve controlled motion in mechanical equipment. The design and construction of cylinders vary depending on factors such as the required force, stroke length, speed, and environmental conditions.
2. Key points for cylinder selection
Basic parameter matching
Cylinder diameter selection: calculated according to the required thrust (F=P×A, P is air pressure, A is piston area)
Stroke determination: actual required stroke + 10% safety margin
Working pressure: standard 0.4-0.6MPa, maximum not exceeding 0.8MPa
Ambient temperature: ordinary cylinders are suitable for -10℃~80℃, special models can reach -40℃~150℃
Selection for special working conditions
Clean environment: stainless steel material + low friction seals
Corrosive environment: anodizing or PTFE coating
High-precision occasions: magnetic ring cylinder + position sensor (repeat accuracy ±0.1mm)
High-speed application: buffer cylinder (special buffer is required when the speed is ≥500mm/s)
3. Installation and commissioning specifications
Key points for mechanical installation
Coaxiality adjustment: deviation between piston rod and load ≤0.1mm/100mm
Support spacing: additional intermediate support is required when stroke >500mm
Anti-rotation structure: use guide device or double cylinder in parallel
Typical error cases:
Unused floating joint leads to partial load
Fixed bolts are not tightened in diagonal order
Air circuit connection specifications
Pipe cleaning: Newly installed systems need to be purged with compressed air for 30 minutes
Filter selection: filtration accuracy 40μm (ordinary) 5μm (precision)
Lubrication management:
Oil mist device installation distance ≤5m from cylinder
ISOVG32 pneumatic special oil is recommended
It is strictly forbidden to add lubricating oil to oil-free cylinders
